Interpreting Y-DNA Test
"Keep in mind that we're only dealing with the Y chromosome, which is
passed exclusively from father to son, with only occasional mutations to the
Y-DNA signature between generations. One would therefore expect all male
Parkers descending from your George Parker to have very, very similar Y-
DNA signatures (say, 35 of 37 markers matching, or better). By extension,
one would expect all Parkers descending from the earliest Parker in your
George Parker's lineage (say, his father's father's father's father's father's
father's father's father) to also have similar Y-DNA signatures… your cousin
could only be a 33/37 or 34/37 match to his most distant Parker cousins."

- "About My Haplogroup" (from secure FamilyTreeDNA
webpage)
The R-SRY10831.2 line began in Central or West Asia. Its
descendants spread both into South Asia and across the steeps to Europe.
Early studies linked this lineage to the spread of Indo-European languages.
These include French, English, and Spanish. (See Haplogroup Migration
Map, left. and Y-DNA Migration Map in .pdf. from FamilyTreeDNA)
"Keep in mind that the "About My Haplogroup" blurb and the
migrations map are very, very, general. Anybody classified as R1a (which
formed tens of thousands of years ago) receives the same information from
FTDNA... See Haplogroup R1a (Y-DNA) for more specifics" 18 Jan 2014
